Did you know that northwest Alabama is the home of one of the nicest, well-equipped flying sites in the Southeast? The Quad Cities R/C Club (QCRCC) is the operator of a beautiful complex located on the Colbert County Landfill, complete with a 400 feet asphalt runway, a covered shelter with bathroom facility and water, and safety fencing. This modern, family friendly complex is open 365 days a year and is accessible to QCRCC members 24 hours a day. We have an open membership policy and welcome anyone interested in joining our club to visit us and see what we have to offer. You can find us most every weekend, weather permitting, at the field. All types of aircraft are welcome (electrics, glow, gas, or helicopters). We look forward to seeing you join us.

The weather is improving, and it is getting a little cooler, so it is time to get back out to the field and get some flying in before the winter gets upon us. The scheduled event for this October will be a scale type event with aircraft that have to resemble some form of an actual airplane. We will have pilot’s choice and spectator’s choice awards for the entrants, it should be a lot of fun.

Battery Chargers

One of the most useful items which a modeler will purchase is a field charger. There are many different varieties, and the Hobbytown staff can show you most of them and point out their features. The field charger allows you to “quick” charge and cycle your batteries, which will provide you with longer flying times and can preserve the life of your batteries. There are basically three types of batteries which are currently used by the modeler.

  1. Nicads (NiCD)- nickel cadmium- batteries are one of the safest, easiest to use batteries available. They provide a good source of power, but tend to be heavy.
